Windows 8 and gaming just apparently do NOT go together.

HOWEVER: If you've got Windows 8, avoid this game like the plague (pun intended). I've put in quite a few hours (163) into Dead Island and most of it was solo play. Oh, and if you don't like some of the gameplay, it's a bit easy to tweak some files to make it a bit more fun. If you get it for $5 and don't like it, you're not out so much money. It's best played with your brain turned off and with a controller, imo, so if you have a controller, use it.

You'll get a decent weapon mod to start you out once you collect the parts to make that weapon, plus the Bloodbath Arena (zombie waves - pretty fun, if you're into that sort of thing), and the Ryder White campaign (adds to the story - imo, should not be missed play it after your first playthrough).

And that should really probably be the only reason. I say get Dead Island GOTY when it's on sale for $5 if you're interested in zombie head smashing fun. And I'll be putting more time into Riptide at some point. But, don't get me wrong, I think Riptide is alright. However, the overall story is not 'all that'. If you get Riptide without having played Dead Island, a lot of what happened is explained to you. Riptide is just a continuation on the story told in Dead Island, with new features (weapons, skills, a new vehicle, a new character). It's got a few occasional quirks and you *might* run into some issues running it (ie: black screen on startup) or even joining games with friends, but some of these issues can sometimes be worked out.
